1.What are some of the benefits of using a mobile DH service?

Convenience- eliminate logistics of travel/wait times.
Comfort- being in a familiar environment
Care- the dental hygienist is able to take the time to provide an educational experience about caring for your own teeth and gums. Knowledge is power!
Consistency- no need to book appointments far in advance or having to wait months and months to get into see your hygienist. Your dental hygiene needs will be met in a timely manner so that you can stay consistent and on track with your dental hygiene care.

2. How do your fees compare to those of a general dental office?

ADHS provides services for a very reasonable cost. For a complete list of codes and fees please email a request for information from the contact page. Many treatment fees are below the suggested provincial fee guide to lessen this barrier to receiving care.

3. Will my insurance company reimburse me for your dental hygiene fees?

The independent dental hygienist (IDH) codes are different from a regular dental office’s service codes. The main dental insurance providers do cover IDH codes. (Manulife, Blue Cross, Sunlife, Greenshield etc) There are a handful of small insurance companies that do not cover IDH codes. If you have any concerns, we can contact your insurance provider and do a pre-approval to make sure your insurance claim for dental hygiene services will be accepted.

4. Will you be able to refer me to a dentist?

Yes, of course! ADHS collaborates with dentists as well as other health care professionals in order to ensure effective and complete care. We would be happy to refer you to a dentist or other health care specialist suited to your needs.

5. Doesn’t there have to be a dentist on site?

In 2006, dental hygienists in Alberta were given the freedom to work independent of a dentist. This means that highly educated, self-initiated dental hygienists are able to open their own practice or bring their services to a client’s environment. The rationale is to increase community access to dental hygiene care.

6. What are the logistical requirements for the dental hygiene provider in my environment?

We require approximately 10-12 feet of space to set up our equipment and chair. We also require a hard, flat surface for ease of cleanup. We may decide to place a drop mat if required. An electrical outlet should be available in the equipment area. The space should be free from clutter.

7. Do you work on kids and elderly clients?

We welcome clients of all ages. Good oral health can start at a young age take you into your golden years.

8. How do you sterilize your dental tools?

Dental instruments are considered critical devices. We follow all recommended standards that AHS and the Alberta Dental Association require. This includes biological spore tests that are performed in each and every load processed. These tests MUST clear before any instruments are utilized. ADHS follows the strict protocols that are in place for the safety and health of clients, as it is of utmost importance!
